Baidi Town in Fengjie County
It is a national 4A level scenic area, situated at the opening of Qutang Gorge, one of the Three Gorges. It was initially built in 25 AD. At the end of Western Han Dynasty, Gongsun Shu occupied Sichuan and called himself the King of Shu. At that time, he often saw white smoke rising out of a well. The white smoke looked like a white dragon. So, he called himself Baidi, literally, white emperor. Many ancient poetry inscriptions can be found inBaidiTown. There are poems composed by Li Bai and Du Fu, poet immortal and poet sage of Tang Dynasty. As a result, this town is also known as poetry town. |
