Baihua Lake

Located by the Zhuchang Town about 22 kilometers northwest of Guiyan, Baihua Lake is famous for its tributaries and islets. Seen from the distance, the over 100 islets in the lake give it a flavor of Jiangnan. The best time to visit Baihua Lake is in spring when various flowers are in full bloom. Thus the lake is called Baihua Lake, the One-Hundred Flowers Lake. Traveling on the lake, you can also enjoy the egrets and wild geese flying above the lake, and the wild ducks and gulls swimming on the lake.

Baihua Lake is divided into three sections, the Middle Lake, the South Lake and the North Lake. The lake is wide in the middle and narrow in the upper stream and the down stream with narrow valleys. Especially in the upper stream, the mountains on both banks leave only a thread of the sky at the narrowest part.

Baihua Lake boasts about 50 scenic spots, such as Song Lin Yuan Tiao (Looking Far in the Pine Forest), Shuang Hou Shou Yuan (Two Monkeys Guarding the Garden), Baihua Shuang Xia (Twin Gorges with One Hundred Flowers), Qun Feng Die Cui (Emerald Peaks), Jian Chan Xi Shui (Golden Toad Drinking Water), Gu Feng Du Xiu (A Beautiful Lone Peak), etc. The Lake features “water in mountains and mountains in water”. You cannot decide whether the mountains surround the water or the water encircles the mountains.

On the southeast of Baihua Lake is the Zhuchang Fortress built in the Ming Dynasty. The remaining fortress is about 2000 meters long with the west gate and the east gate. It is a military station for the army of the Ming Dynasty. There are three peaks called the First Greatest General, the Second Greatest General and the Third Greatest General, which are named after the three generals sent to fight here by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty.

About 1000 meters from Zhuchang Town, there is another fortress built in the Qing Dynasty at the Yingpan Slope. Now only the walls, the crenels and the batteries and other ruins remain of the fortress.
