Kunming-Jianshui-Yuanyang-Jinghong-Kunming

Day 1. Arrive in Kunming/Jianshui (Dinner) |

In the morning, we drive to the airport and take the flight to Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province. On arriving in the city, we embark on a two-hour drive out of town to the famous Stone Forest. Many legends tell the story of the creation of this unique geological phenomenon, but only seeing it for yourself can reveal the entire majestic landscape. It is said that ‘visiting Yunnan without seeing the Stone Forest is like not visiting the province at all’. During our visit to the forest, we meet the people of the Sani, an ethnic group living in the area, who wear colorful embroidered traditional clothing. The Sani are known for their heart-stirring singing and dancing. After exploring the park, we continue to drive to Jianshui. |

Day 2. Jianshui/Yuanyang (Breakfast, Dinner) |

|
In the morning, we explore the Jianshui old town and visit the 3 main attractions there. First we stop at Zhu Family Garden, and then we visit a place that used to be one of China’s most prominent Confucianism schools, in which some of China’s biggest scholars have learned prior to taking the imperial tests, to become Mandarins at the Imperial Court. Today the vast compound serves as Confucian Temple. Then before leaving Jianshui, we take a look at the Fubo Well. Leaving Jianshui, we will drive towards an amazing cluster of ethnic minorities inhabiting the mountains surrounding Yuanyang prefecture. In the late afternoon, we drive to Laohuzui to enjoy the beautiful and breathtaking sunset over the rice terraces. |

Day 3. Yuanyang (Breakfast, Dinner) |

|
Yuanyang is a small mountain town and an administrative center for countless hill-tribe villages in the area. At Duoyshu village area we will begin our day by enjoying the beautiful sunrise terrace. Then we leave the town for a three-hour hike, a welcome change from the long drives of the previous two days. We visit Bada village first and then begin hiking from Bada to Qingkou. In Qingkou village we can see the traditional mushroom-shaped roofs of the Hani people. In the late afternoon, we drive to Longshuba to enjoy the beautiful and breathtaking sunset over the rice terraces. |

Day 4. Yuanyang/Jinghong (Breakfast, Dinner) |

|
In the morning we experience the Local Market in the old town in Yuanyang. Then we will drive to Jinghong, the biggest city of Xishuangbanan. Upon arriving, we will explore the city and its surrounding, including a walk along the Mekong River, which we have left only few days ago at Luang Prabang. |

Day 5. Jinghong/Menghai/Aini Village (Breakfast, Dinner) |

|
After breakfast, we take a one hour drive to Menghai, where we will visit the Jingzhen Ocatgonal Pavilion. From here, we will continue to a local market. The locals, from different ethnic groups, gather to trade mostly agricultural produce but also a variety of handicrafts, and to purchase their own supplies. This is a unique opportunity to see in one place a great variety of ethnic groups, some of whom live up in the mountains where it is nearly impossible to visit them. We walk through the bustling market amid the colorful booths, and see the locals as they sit for a cup of tea and exchange information on who has married whom, whose child has left for the city, and other such important items of news. We leave the market, and drive through seemingly endless tea plantations, being a major source of income to the local in this region. We then reach Bulang Village, from which we begin a 3-4 hours trek once again through the jungle, on our way to the remote village of Aini. |

Day 6. Aini Village/JinghongQKunming (Breakfast, Dinner) |

|
Today we will have our breakfast together with our hosting families of Aini. We then depart the village, and take a 2 hours hike, once again through the thick jungle, and all the way to the big lake, where we will meet our car. We take a 3 hours drive back to Jinghong airport for flight to Kunming. |
