Yunnan to Guizhou

 

Day 1. Arrive in Kunming (Dinner)

We arrive in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, famous for its year-round mild climate, Kunming is often called Spring City. On arriving in the city, upon our arrival, we will transfer to our hotel to rest.

 

 

 

 

Day 2.  Kunming/Dali (Breakfast, Dinner)

Today we will drive to West Hill, It extends a distance of more than 40 kilometers at an altitude of between 1900 meters to 2350 meters above sea level. It is very beautiful with lush vegetation, blooming flowers, green grass and tranquil surroundings. It has enjoyed great fame for its beautiful and unique natural scenery since ancient time and was renowned as “the most beautiful place in Yunnan". From there we continue for a 4 hours ride to Dali by beautiful landscape and mountain views; Upon our arrival, we will visit the Three White Pagoda, which has history more than 1000 years, used to be the sacred Buddhism temple in the flourishing old dynasty in south part of China. We then explore Dali Old Town, and finish the dinner before sunset.

 

 

 

 

Day 3. Dali (Breakfast, Dinner)

Today we start our exploration of the amazing city in a special way, having a wonderful bicycle tour from Dali old town, we ride all the way to Erhai. Located at the foot of Cangshan Mountain in Yunnan Province, Dali City is the economic and cultural center of the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture. The area is surrounded by mountains on the east, west, and south, and has the Erhai Lake, one of the best sights there, in its center. We ride through the local market and villages to see ancient buildings, city walls and the old city moat and enjoy the picturesque surroundings. Arriving at Erhai, we take the cruise on the 250 square km Erhai Lake. It is the largest highland lake next to Dianchi and one of the seven biggest fresh water lakes in China. Its name means "Ear-shaped Sea” in Chinese, which implies that the lake is ear shaped and as large as a sea. Left the cruise, we take the cable car up to Chan Mountain to have an overview of Dali and then hike on the mountain for about 2 hours. And then we go to visit the Wuwei Temple. Well known for excellent Kongfu masters, the temple attracts Kongfu learners from all parts of the world. Overnight in Dali.

 

 

 

 

Day 4.  Dali/Shaxi (Breakfast, Dinner)

Today we will leave Dali and drive towards Shaxi, on the way to Shaxi, we visit the Xizhou Old Town and Xizhou market. As the birthplace of Dali culture, Xizhou Old Town is a main residential district as well as a famous historic cultural town of Bai Nationality. Leaving Xizhou, we continue to drive to Shaxi. On the way, we pass Liantie and Eryuan County and we are able to enjoy beautiful landscapes and local villages along the way. 

 

 

 

  

Day 5. Shaxi/Lijiang (Breakfast, Dinner)

Today we start our visit with Shaxi Old Town. Together with the Great Wall, the Ohel Rachel Synagogue of Shanghai and the Christian Pagoda, and the Monastery of Shaanxi Province, Shaxi has been added to the list of internationally significant sites by the World Memorial Fund for Architecture. With agreeable weather, clean water, and abundant products, it’s called the hometown of honey and milk. After visiting Shaxi, we drive to Shibaoshan Cave. Shibaoshan, also known as Shanbao Mountain, is the center part of the ‘Three Paralled Rivers”, a UNESCO World Nature Heritage Site. With an area of about 25 square km, the mountain has fascinating and beautiful landscapes. When hiking on it, as the elevation changes, we may be able to experience different seasons and different weathers within the distance of a few kilometers. Leaving Shibaoshan, we drive to Lijiang. On the way, we stop at Jianchuan local market to further experience the local life. After arriving Lijiang, we transfer to our hotel.

 

 

 

 

 

Day 6.  Lijiang (Breakfast, Dinner)

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lijiang is a town combining different cultures, beliefs and architectural styles. We start our day with first visit the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which is 5600 meters high. This is a true haven for wild flora and fauna, of which it is said that about a quarter of China’s plants can be found in its vicinity. We take a cable car trip to the top of one of the peaks for an amazing view over the surroundings, and then enjoy the ‘Impressions of Lijiang’ show (VIP seat) with the mountain as the backdrop. After that, we continue our visit to Baisha village. Baisha Village is the village in the Lijiang Basin at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Houses there were built of a peculiar rough stone without plaster or painting. From there, we proceed to Yuhu village and Yufeng Temple. Yuhu village was one of the first residential places of Naxi ethnic group. Located at the southern foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain,Yufeng Temple is a historical witness of the peaceful coexistence and syncretism of multinational cultures and religions and a place that helped the Naxi culture develop and enrich. In the late afternoon, we will visit the Lashi Lake and Zhiyun temple, and we will also pay a visit to local family and enjoy a local dinner with them at their home, to experience their hospitality and simple of the Naxi people; Then in the evening, we will transfer back to Lijiang old town.

 

 

 

 

Day 7. Lijiang-Shangri-la (Breakfast, Dinner)

We start our day with first visit the Morning Market, where we can see dozens of local mushrooms as well as frogs and things we can’t have opportunity to imagine in the west. After that, we go to the Black Dragon Pool with Naxi Museum. Leaving Lijiang, we drive towards the Tibet Autonomous Region and the north of Yunnan Province. En route around 2 hours later, we stop at the Yangtze First Bend and the Tiger Leaping Gorge, where the waters of the Yangtze River rushes into this narrow gorge. In the afternoon we reach the town of Zhongdian, which is often referred to as Shangri-La. Upon arrival, we explore the unique Old Town. Surrounded by Tibetan countryside, the town is split between Han and Tibetan residents, which is a wonderful place to experience the real Tibetan-style dwellings and temples.

 

 

 

 

Day 8.  Shangri-la/Kunming (Breakfast, Dinner)

Today we first go to visit the largest Tibetan monastery Songzanlin Monastery, dating back to 1679, lies at the foot of Foping Mountain and is rich with Buddhist treasures. After that, we will visit the Pudacuo Scenic Region including Shudu Lake, Bita Lake resort, Xiaji village. Being the highest lake in Yunnan Province at 3500 meters above sea level, this is a great spot to enjoy the beautiful wilderness and landscapes of the region. We also stop for visiting a Tibetan family and hear from them about their daily life. In the evening, we will take our flight to Kunming; 

 

 

 

 

Day 9. KunmingQ Guilin/Yangshuo (Breakfast, Dinner)

After breakfast, we embark on a two-hour drive out of town to the famous Stone Forest. Many legends tell the story of the creation of this unique geological phenomenon, but only seeing it for yourself can reveal the entire majestic landscape. It is said that ‘visiting Yunnan without seeing the Stone Forest is like not visiting the province at all’. During our 2 hours visiting to the forest, we meet the people of the Sani, an ethnic group living in the area, who wear colorful embroidered traditional clothing. The Sani are known for their heart-stirring singing and dancing. After exploring the park, we drive to the Kunming airport for our flight to Guilin. Upon arrival, we transfer to Yangshuo for overnight;

 

 

 

 

Day 10. Yangshuo (Breakfast, Dinner)

Embarking on a bamboo boat ride along the Li (Crystal) River From Yangshuo to Fuli, Along the way we get a glimpse of life on the river banks. In the small villages, the locals depend totally on the river to sustain their way of life. The river is not only their main mean of transportation but also the source of water for their fields and washing their clothes, and even of drinking water. Then in the afternoon, we take our time to climb the 800 steps in a mountain path leading to the top of Moon Hill for an outstanding view over the rocky surroundings. We then walk along the Yulong river and explore the villages including Jiuxian Village and Chaoyang Village; In the evening, we enjoy the unique “Yangshuo Impressions (President seat) performance directed by the very same director who was responsible for the Beijing Olympic Games opening ceremony in 2008, when hundreds of actors performed in the world’s largest outdoor theater—with the waters of the Li River serving as their stage. This breathtaking show is not to be missed. 

 

 

 

 

Day 11. Yangshuo/Longsheng (Breakfast, Dinner)

Today we will transfer to explore Longsheng rice terrace, also called Dragon Ridgeback Mountain, which features one of the world’s largest manmade creations. In the endless slopes of the mountain, the local peasants have carved with their bare hands thousands and thousands of terraces to capture water streaming down the mountain and use it for crop cultivation. We take in their enormous extent and to enjoy the great view over the beautiful landscape. The region of Longsheng is also known for the diversified ethnic groups living there and we stop at some of their villages to learn about their traditions and customs. In the evening, we will stay on the top of the terrace and enjoy a quite night without high-tech intervention, just leave the nature and us. 

 

 

 

 

Day 12. Longsheng/Zhaoxing (Breakfast, Dinner)

In the morning we first drive to the Chengyang villages and Chengyang Bridge. It is China’s most famous wind and rain bridge. The long and winding roads through Guizhou’s ever mountainous landscapes give us further opportunities to stop at villages of the Miao, Dong, and other ethnic groups along the way. We will proceed with 3 to 4 hours drive to Zhaoxing, on the way we will visit the village on the way, upon our arrival, we will explore the Tangan Dong village, and feel their hospitality, and we will then explore Zhaoxing drum tower and bell tower.

 

 

 

 

Day 13. Zhaoxing/Rongjiang (Breakfast, Dinner)

Today we will drive 3-4 hours along the winding mountain road to Rongjiang, on the way we will go to visit the picturesque villages of the Dong people, San Bao village, Yintan village and Biasha Miao village and enjoy their warm hospitality. We learn about their way of life, and the special drum tower and wind and Rain Bridge that feature significantly in their beliefs and traditions. Biasha is known as the “last gunnan tribe in the world”. The dresses for men and women in the village reflect the style of the Qing Dynasty, so that they are regarded as the living fossils of the Qing culture. For dinner, we will have at the village chief house to eat tradition Miao food.

 

 

 

 

Day 14. Rongjiang/Kaili (Breakfast, Dinner)

Leaving Rongjiang, we drive to Kaili. We continue our drive through an area densely populated with different ethnic groups and stop at several Miao villages. We visit the Nan hua village, Langde village and Datang village. The Miao people are subdivided into numerous groups, each with its own distinctive traditional clothing, beliefs, and dialect. The region, only recently opened to Westerners, offers a glimpse of a different China. Although it has few relics of the great imperial era, we see the simple rural way of life of ethnic groups who have preserved their own unique traditions for hundreds of years. After that, we hike around titian rice terrace at Leigongshan. For dinner, we will enjoy the local sweet and sour fish.

 

 

 

 

Day 15. Kaili/Guiyang (Breakfast, Dinner)

After breakfast, we will embark on a two-hour drive to Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou province, when we are close, we will explore the Qingyan Ancient Town, with a history of more than 600 hundrend year, Qinyan ancient town is a living heritage of Guizhou culture as well as China culture; Then we will take our flight to Hong Kong
