Nanjing

Situated at the southern bank of the Yangtze River, Nanjing has a history of over 2,500 years. Having served as the capital city for nearly 500 years, it is recognized as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, also known as the “capital of six dynasties” and the “metropolis of ten regimes”. This melting pot of the changing dynasties coupled with the constant arrival of migrants to the city have made it a uniquely inclusive city.

The city’s famous scenic spots include the Confucian Temple in the Qinhuai River Belt, the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, the Ming Dynasty City Wall, the Republican period Former Presidential Palace, the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge. Cittaslow has discovered China, and has awarded a little village “Yaxi” within Nanjing’s Gaochun county in Jiangsu the title of "the leisurely city ". The Sightseeing Pedestrian Bridges over the Yangtze have become the postcard scenery of the new city.
